How we work in Brisbane and Logan
The M1 corridor links our Gold Coast base with Logan and Brisbane, and we travel it constantly. That makes the southern half of the metro area, from Yatala and Beenleigh up through Springwood, Eight Mile Plains and into the inner city, a natural part of our service area rather than a stretch we visit once in a while.
Because we are travelling in, we plan Brisbane and Logan jobs carefully. We confirm access, parking, loading dock bookings and site induction requirements before the day, bring the materials we need rather than relying on a mid-job supplier run, and group work so that a site visit gets as much done as possible. For builders and property managers, that means fewer return trips and a clearer program.
We work to AS/NZS 3000 on every job, issue compliance certificates when the work is finished, and give upfront written quotes so you know what is included before we start. You can read more about our licences and cover on our licences and insurance page.
Commercial electrical work across the region
Commercial work is the bulk of what we do in Brisbane and Logan. The region has a huge range of building types, and each comes with its own conditions on site.
- Office towers and tenancies in the CBD, Spring Hill and the fringe suburbs, where most work is fit-out, refurbishment and make-good inside a managed building.
- Hospitality venues in Fortitude Valley, Newstead and Woolloongabba, where kitchens, bars, lighting and trading hours drive how the job is run.
- New mixed-use and apartment buildings in Newstead, Bowen Hills and along the river, including common area services and ground floor retail.
- Industrial and trade premises around Eagle Farm, Pinkenba and the airport, and down the M1 at Yatala and Stapylton.
- Retail and service tenancies around shopping centres at Carindale, Mount Gravatt, Browns Plains and Loganholme.
Our main commercial services are commercial fit-outs, construction electrical for builders, switchboard and distribution work, lighting upgrades and ongoing maintenance. For a deeper look at how we handle larger commercial jobs in the city, see our commercial electrician Brisbane page.
Working with builders and head contractors
A lot of our Brisbane and Logan work comes through builders. On those jobs we price from the drawings and specification, raise RFIs early when something does not add up, and work to the program set by the site manager. We provide SWMS for our scope, attend inductions and toolbox talks, and coordinate with the other trades so rough-in, ceilings and fit-off happen in the right order.
At the end of the job we hand over test results, compliance certificates and as-built information so the builder can close out the electrical package without chasing paperwork. If you are a builder looking for an electrical contractor for a fit-out or small to medium commercial project, our builders and construction page explains how we run those jobs.
Residential work: old homes, new estates and acreage
Brisbane and Logan have some of the most varied housing in Queensland, and the electrical problems change with the age and type of the home.
Inner suburbs: Queenslanders and post-war homes
Suburbs like Coorparoo, Woolloongabba and the older parts of Mount Gravatt have plenty of timber Queenslanders and post-war homes. Many still have original wiring in places, ceramic rewireable fuses, no safety switches and far too few power points for a modern kitchen. When these homes are renovated or raised, the electrical usually needs a proper rethink rather than a patch. A switchboard upgrade with RCD protection is often the first step.
Southern suburbs and Logan
Further south you find 1970s and 1980s brick homes around Springwood, Eight Mile Plains and Carindale, and newer growth estates through Logan. Older brick homes often need safety switches, extra circuits and LED lighting. Newer homes tend to need add-ons: EV chargers, solar and battery readiness, air conditioning circuits and outdoor power.
Acreage around Jimboomba
Acreage blocks bring their own work: long cable runs to sheds and pumps, submains sized to avoid voltage drop, and outbuildings that have been wired in stages over many years. We check these installations properly before adding load to them.
Smoke alarms and compliance for Brisbane homes
Queensland smoke alarm law requires photoelectric alarms that comply with AS 3786-2014, interconnected, and either hardwired or powered by a 10-year non-removable lithium battery. They must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey. These rules have applied when a home is sold or leased since 1 January 2022, and they apply to all domestic dwellings from 1 January 2027.
Many Brisbane and Logan homes, especially older ones and rentals, still have a single alarm in the hallway. We install and interconnect compliant smoke alarms and can check the rest of the installation at the same time. For landlords, our rental property electrical service covers the jobs that come up between tenancies.
Weather, storms and flooding
South East Queensland storm season is hard on electrical installations. Lightning, power surges and water getting into outdoor fittings are all common causes of callouts in summer. Parts of Brisbane near the river and low-lying areas around the Logan and Albert rivers have flooded in past events, and any wiring, switchboard or appliance that has been under water needs to be inspected by a licensed electrician before power is restored.
If you are in a flood-prone area and planning a renovation, it is worth talking to us about switchboard location, circuit layout and raising outlets where practical. The Electrical Safety Office (electricalsafety.qld.gov.au) also publishes guidance on electrical safety after storms and floods.
