Typical Burleigh Waters homes and their wiring
Drive around Burleigh Waters and you’ll see a lot of low-set brick and tile homes on generous blocks, many with a pool out the back. They were well built, but the electrical side reflects what a household needed forty years ago: a handful of circuits, a small switchboard and not many power points per room.
Today those same homes run ducted or multiple split system air conditioners, induction cooktops, pool equipment, home offices and often an electric vehicle. That’s a lot more load than the original board was designed for. The most common things we find:
- Switchboards with ceramic fuses or a mix of old and new breakers
- Safety switches on power circuits only, leaving lighting and some appliances unprotected
- No spare space for new circuits
- Extension leads and double adaptors doing the job of missing power points

Canal and lakeside properties
Homes backing onto the canals and Burleigh Lake often have pontoons, garden lighting and entertaining areas close to the water. Anything electrical near water needs to be installed with care: correct IP ratings, safety switch protection, and cable runs that won’t be damaged by garden work. We install outdoor power, lighting and pontoon supply to suit, and replace older gear that has failed from moisture.
Pools and outdoor living
So many Burleigh Waters homes have pools that it’s one of our most frequent jobs here. Pool pumps, heaters, chlorinators and lighting all need proper circuits and equipotential bonding. Trade and light commercial work nearby
Burleigh Waters borders a busy light industrial and trade area toward West Burleigh, with workshops, showrooms and service businesses. Storms and older homes
Burleigh Waters is low-lying in parts and cops its share of summer storms. After a big storm we see water in outdoor fittings, damaged appliances from surges and safety switches that won’t reset. If that happens, turn off the affected circuit at the board and call us. We’ll track down the fault and make it safe.
If you’ve lost appliances to surges before, it may be worth adding surge protection at the main switchboard. It won’t stop a direct strike, but it helps protect sensitive electronics from the more common spikes that come through the supply.
