A small suburb with a mix of work
Tugun’s geography shapes its housing. With the ocean on one side and steep hills on the other, most homes are close to the beach, and many are older houses or small walk-up unit blocks rather than towers. There are newer homes and renovations mixed in, especially on the hillside where there are views. That combination keeps our Tugun work varied.
Medical and health tenancies
John Flynn Private Hospital sits in Tugun, and like any hospital precinct it attracts specialist rooms, clinics, imaging and allied health businesses nearby. These tenancies need careful electrical planning. Consulting rooms need good lighting and enough power for equipment, reception areas need data and power for computers and phones, and treatment spaces may have specific requirements for the equipment used.

Older homes and walk-up units
Tugun’s older houses and 1970s and 1980s unit blocks are where most of our residential work comes from. Common issues we find:
- Original switchboards, sometimes in shared meter rooms, with limited safety switch protection
- Outdoor lights and power points badly corroded by salt air
- Single battery smoke alarms that don’t meet the current Queensland standard
- Old wiring that has been extended many times by different people
For unit owners, work often involves the body corporate too, especially where the main switchboard or meters are in a common area. We’re used to working with committees and strata managers to get approvals sorted.
Rentals and smoke alarms
A lot of Tugun property is rented, both long term and as holiday accommodation. Queensland’s smoke alarm rules already apply at every new lease, and from 1 January 2027 they apply to all homes. Alarms must be photoelectric, interconnected and installed in every bedroom, hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey. Salt, humidity and storms
Being so close to the water, Tugun homes deal with salt spray and humidity all year and heavy storms in summer. We recommend owners check outdoor fittings each year for rust, cracked covers and loose mounts. Catching a failing fitting early is much cheaper than dealing with water getting into the circuit.
Close to the border
Tugun sits a short hop from the New South Wales border, and plenty of our clients here have properties or businesses on both sides.
