Rather than a general overview, here are the things Elanora owners most often ask when they call. They cover most of the work we do in the suburb.
“Why does my safety switch keep tripping?”
This is the most common call. In homes of Elanora’s age, the cause is usually one of a few things: a failing appliance, moisture in an outdoor fitting or pool equipment, a damaged cable, or an older safety switch that has become oversensitive. “Is my switchboard too old?”
Many 1980s homes in Elanora still have their original board, sometimes with ceramic fuses and often with safety switch protection on only some circuits. If you’re adding air conditioning, an EV charger or an induction cooktop, or if you’ve seen scorch marks or felt warmth at the board, it’s time to have it checked. A switchboard upgrade brings every circuit under safety switch protection and gives room for new work.
“Can we add air conditioning upstairs?”
Two-storey homes on hilly blocks get hot upstairs, and split systems in bedrooms are a very common addition. Each unit usually needs its own circuit, and the cable route from the board to an upstairs room takes some planning in an existing home. “What do we need for the 2027 smoke alarm rules?”
Every Queensland home needs photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in each bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey by 1 January 2027. In a typical four-bedroom, two-storey Elanora home that’s often six or more alarms. We can install hardwired or 10-year lithium interconnected alarms and issue a certificate. “Our pool pump keeps cutting out.”
Pools are everywhere in Elanora, and plenty of pool circuits are as old as the house. Tired cables, water in the pool equipment area and ageing outdoor outlets are common. We’ll test the circuit, fix the fault and make sure bonding and protection meet the current rules.
Sloping blocks and bush surrounds
Elanora’s hills and reserves are part of its appeal, but they bring a few electrical quirks. Under-house areas and lower levels can be damp, which is hard on fittings. Trees near overhead service lines cause trouble in storms. Stairs and long paths on steep blocks need decent lighting to be safe at night. We handle outdoor and garden lighting, sensor lights and path lighting regularly.
