A suburb with three kinds of work
Woolloongabba does not fit one category. On any given week we might be fitting out a new tenancy, upgrading a switchboard in a cottage and chasing a fault in a converted warehouse. Here is how that breaks down.
New commercial and mixed-use buildings
Development around the precinct, helped along by the Cross River Rail project, has brought new office, apartment and retail buildings. Their ground floor tenancies need fit-outs for cafes, clinics, gyms and shops. These are usually builder-led jobs, and we work to the builder’s program with SWMS, inductions and full handover paperwork.
Character commercial along the main roads
Along Logan Road and the older streets there are shopfronts, antique and design stores, restaurants and small offices in buildings that have been around for many decades. The electrical in these buildings has often been added to over many years. We trace what is there, remove redundant work, and bring the board and circuits up to standard before new work goes in.
Cottages and older homes
The residential streets have timber workers’ cottages and post-war homes, many renovated, some not. Unrenovated homes can still have ceramic rewireable fuses and no safety switches. A switchboard upgrade with RCD protection on every circuit is one of the most worthwhile safety improvements for these houses.
Medical, allied health and professional suites
With major hospitals nearby, Woolloongabba and the surrounding streets have plenty of medical and allied health practices. These tenancies need careful planning: dedicated circuits for equipment, more power outlets than a standard office, good lighting in treatment rooms and in some cases specific requirements for patient areas. Game days and access
Anyone who works in Woolloongabba knows that event days at the Gabba change everything, from traffic to parking and deliveries. We check the calendar when we schedule work in the area, particularly for jobs that need a trailer or material drop, and plan around it.
Renovating an older home
If you are renovating a cottage or post-war house, the electrical is best planned before the walls are closed up. We can rewire where needed, add circuits for modern kitchens and air conditioning, and install compliant smoke alarms to Queensland requirements at the same time.
